Farming Principles & Practices
the landOur Market garden is grown on reclaimed land. The field where we grow our vegetables was a hay field for over 20 years and has now been converted to gardens. We farm most of our vegetables in permanent raised beds.

the waterIt would be great if mother nature would provide us with a little sprinkle of rain each week. - But that's not always the case. Irrigation is our next best option to ensure crops produce well. Our water is pumped from a spring-fed sand point on our farm and filtered through our UV treatment system.
|
pest controlWe try our best to grow healthy plants, which are less susceptible to disease and pest pressure. But we do use insect netting and compost tea to protect some of our most sensitive plants. - The gardens are pesticide-free, but the rest of the farm is conventional.

the seedGMO Seed?
Did you know that other than sweet corn, and squash, there are no other GMOs commercially sold for veggie production? Our seed for our market garden is not treated and non GMO. |
fertilizerWe use compost from our dairy barns to help fertilize our soil for the market garden. Although our dairy heard is not organic, we feel that our compost is an excellent source of nutrients for our gardens.
Composted manure is different than regular manure that you get from other farms- here's why: Composted manure has been allowed to heat; which helps create a more stable nutrient source, as well as kills weed seeds and pathogens. |
our dairy herdMeadow Lynn Farms originally started as a dairy farm- and it is still the largest proponent of the farm today. To find out more about our dairy cows, and our strawberry patch, come take a tour of our farm or visit us on the web @ www.meadowlynnfarms.com
